In this session we will discuss the most common types of automobile insurance coverages and the requirements of Missouri law related to those. It will be a high level overview designed to help the listener make personal decisions about purchasing appropriate coverage and serve as a foundation for the Advanced Coverage Analysis session on July 14, 2020.

Auto liability insurance and RSMo 303.190 (commonly called the “Motor Vehicle Financial Responsibility Law” or “MVFRL”) – the central law governing that coverage in Missouri
Uninsured Motorist (“UM”) coverage and RSMo 379.203 – the law governing that coverage in Missouri
Underinsured Motorist (“UIM”) coverage and RSMo 379.204 – the law governing that coverage in Missouri

Comprehensive coverage for physical damage to an insured auto
Collision coverage for physical damage to an insured auto

James Turley Related seminars and products: 2

James Turley received his B.A. from the University of Missouri in 1970, and his J.D. from the University of Missouri in 1974.

He was in the private practice of law from 1974 – 1996. He was Director of Claims Litigation for Shelter Insurance Company from 1996 – 1999, and Senior Counsel for Shelter Insurance from 1999 – 2019. Mr. Turley has been an Adjunct Professor at the University of Missouri School of Law since 2017. He has been a consultant in insurance law and practice since 2019.
