A 3 Day In-The-Field Mentoring Experience, from Shooting to Culling to Final Slideshows

Welcome to the Virtual – In The Field – Workshop!

In this online course you will follow Kirsten Lewis for three days as she mentors 6 different students in the homes of 6 families across Denver. This course includes over 24 hours of video material. Video material includes approximately 2 hours of filming at the home of each family as Kirsten guides and mentors her students while they shoot. Following each day’s mentoring sessions are contact sheet reviews, where Kirsten spends 40 minutes with each student looking through the images that they shot during the day. On the last day of the workshop you will be able to watch Kirsten go through each students final 200 photos and select the top 30 for a slideshow to be presented to the families. In addition, there are 5 Q&A videos of Kirsten answering questions from students who were watching the workshop when it was streaming live, a round-table discussion with the students one month after the workshop took place, and extra Q&A and informal footage interspersed throughout the Contact Sheet Reviews.

Your Instructor

Kirsten Lewis

Kirsten is a documentary family photographer based in Denver, Colorado however her work brings her all over the world, from New Zealand to Dubai, Brazil to Canada, Italy to Hawaii. Although she has been shooting for over fifteen years, it was teaching on Creative Live that really brought her approach to documentary family Personal Development to the forefront as a desirable alternative to the traditional family portrait.

She has been mentoring photographers internationally not only within family Personal Development, but a coach guiding them to find their own unique voice by embracing their personal experiences and encouraging them develop a personal point of view. Kirsten’s talks are known to make you laugh one minute and tear up the next, inspiring her listeners to go confront their fears, identify their insecurities and push forward. Despite the many accomplishments including being regularly featured on the Hu ffington Post, interviews around the world and listed as one of the top 100 photographers on Fearless Photographers, it is her role as a mother and wife to her daughter Byrdie Mae and husband street photographer Gregory Bethmann that brings her the most pride and joy. Well that and any Scrabble victory, which are countless.
