About this Course

We were once required to be great coaches. We still have to be great coaches but we are now increasingly being asked to approach training and athletic development with science and to use a data-driven decision making process. There are two problems though: (1) we are coaches first and thinking like a scientist isn’t always easy; (2) bringing science into our coaching requires us to use and manage data, and that isn’t easy either!

This course provides a starting point for the coach who wants to become more scientific and data driven. The first part of the course discusses how a coach can steal from science to improve decision making.

The second part of the course is an introduction to the programming language R. R is a data science and statistics programming software that has become more and more prevalent in our world.

Learn the basics, not from a computer scientist-to-coach perspective, but coach-to-coach. We will show you how to get started with a data-driven process for decision making and basic skills in R to get your feet off the ground. This course includes a four-part video series and step-by-step instructions on the basics of data cleaning, manipulation and visualization in R.
